What if you don’t have a knife? Here is one option. I found this rock along the road. It is a piece of quartz river rock. If it wasn’t already broken, I could have broken a chunk off of a round rock by hitting it on another rock.
Here, I am whittling a dry stick. Notice the size of the chips. Average cutting depth was probably 1/64- to 1/32 -inch.
Here are the shavings from a green stick. Green wood goes a lot faster.
